"Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) is one of the primary set of weapons used in the multitude of conflicts that have plagued West Africa in the past decade.

Addressing issues of small arms in the ECOWAS Sub-region therefore is about saving lives, ending human suffering, and creating a more sustainable and peaceful future

As ECOWAS Peace Pageant Delegates and Peace Ambassadors, we are committed to supporting existing local, regional and international efforts to control the proliferation and use of SALW’s by focusing on the role of the youth."

This, we shall do by:

1. organizing focused-group discussions among the youth across the length and breadth of the country to deliberate on the issue and together take a stand on the matter
2. engaging the media (radio, tv, print and new media) to discuss the issue openly
3. holding discourse with appropriate government functionaries/agencies and opinion leaders on the need to safeguard the youth and the populace in general from illicit SALW use.
